Twan Mulder is a neonatologist and head of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Antwerp University Hospital. He trained as a paediatrician at the Sophia Children's Hospital in Rotterdam and the Maastricht University Medical Centre.In Maastricht, he also did his fellowship in neonatology and obtained his PhD on foetal physiology studies in the chicken embryo model.
Before transferring to Antwerp, he worked at MUMC for more than 20 years as head of neonatology clinic and was titular for perinatology/neonatology teaching in the Bachelor and Master programmes. For 10 years, he was internship master in paediatrics and neonatology and closely involved in the revision of paediatrician training in the Netherlands.
Currently, his interests include the use of video as a team reflection tool in everyday procedures in the NICU, CRM application in the NICU team, early detection of sepsis using AI, presence and exposure to plasticisers in medical devices and early detection of Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia.
